Executive Officers (Executive Committee)

New President of MaliWatch for calendar years 2018 and 2019.

Pr. Maiga received his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science (Engineer of Applied Sciences, Livestock emphasis) in 1979 from the Polytechnic Rural Institute of Katibougou (IPR), Mali and worked for the Malian Office of Livestock Development and Meat Production (OMBEVI, 1980- 1990).

He completed his Master of Science degree in Animal Science in 1986 from the University of Maine, Orono, ME, and a second Master of Science degree in Applied Economics and his Ph.D. in Animal Science in 1994 both from South Dakota State University, Brookings. SD. He was employed for four years by the University of Minnesota Extension Service as a Livestock Specialist. Pr. Maiga joined the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) campus in January 2001. He is in his 19th year at UMC and taught several courses in the Animal Science program. He assumed the role of Interim Department Head for the Agriculture and Natural Resources in August 2015 and become Head of the same department in June 2016. He served as a consultant for the TOKTEN (Transfer of Knowledge Through Expatriates Nationals) Project for the University of Segou and IPR, Mali. He received the NACTA Teacher Fellow Award in 2008, and the University of Minnesota System Wide Global Engagement and Distinguished Professor Award in 2011. Pr. Maiga was past president of Maliwatch and now president for the same organization.

As a seasoned clinical research professional with International experience for having worked in Mali as Pharmacist, in Belgium for ‘Médecins Sans Frontières’ and has been working in Canada since 2013; Dr Mamadou Dakouo is Fundraising Director of MSAS,  Director Business Development of Access-Pharma, Biostatistician at Ethica Clinical and CEO/Founder of StatMed. He is passionate about Pharmaceutical industry, clinical epidemiology and biostatistics, business development and personal development. 

After graduating in Pharmacy (Doctor of Pharmacy) at University of Bamako, he attended the ‘Université Catholique de Louvain‘ of Brussels studying Epidemiology-Biostatistics and Clinical Research where he obtained his  Master’s degree. He completed many others training through different universities such as University of Ouagadougou, University Pierre & Marie CURIE-Paris, Harvard School of Public Health and University of Montreal.

Dr Dakouo is an active member of MSAS since 2004 and serves as Director of Fundraising since 2010.

Jim Barry is a faculty member at the research university, Caltech (California Institute of Technology) teaching Fine Arts. He has 25 years teaching graphics and website construction while traveling in Africa and maintains the African Membrane Society (AMS) site and supports MSAS and AMS conferences with video and photographic recording.

He specializes in developing international communication and education through web sites at the K-12 and university level. Jim Barry received Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of California at Santa Barbara in Cultural Anthropology and Black Studies. Jim Barry continues to produce and exhibit art focused on science, Africa, and our environment.

Fatim currently lives in Minneapolis with her 2 children and husband. She moved to the USA after earning her Bachelor Degree in Management from ENA, Mali and subsequently earned her MBA from the University of St Thomas, St Paul, MN. She worked in the housing industry for 10 years and now performs international grants management at the Center for Victims of Torture, St Paul, MN. She has been a member of MaliWatch since 2009. Prior to MaliWatch, she was the Treasurer of the Malian Association of Minnesota for 2 years and the Vice President of the same for about 2 years. She has initiated many fund raising activities to help back home such as zumba dance to build a restroom and a classroom in Segou, Zame parties to send school supplies to children in Segou Mission school. She has also made multiple clothing donations to children on the street in Bamako, sponsored kids in suburban Bamako through World Vision, donated powder milk to Pouponniere in Bamako, financial assistance to boys in Bole etc.

Abdoulaye Doucouré (Dr) is a Senior Research Scientist at Hollingsworth & Vose, headquartered in East Walpole, Massachussets.

He holds a PhD in Materials Chemistry obtained from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier, at the Université de Montpellier-2 in France

He is also author of two patents and more than 30 scientific publications. He is a research associate and an instructor at the Université des Sciences, des Techniques et des Technologies de Bamako and at the Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs A.B. TOURE of Mali.
